Almost expected

Anyta Sunday is such a good writer, that we have come to expect a lot from her. William is another exceptional story with just enough tease to let you get to know the characters and why the way they are. Just when you think you are smarter than the therapist and have all the answers, you find out you don't. Anyta Sunday is one smart cookie. She knows how to keep you reading. Well done and highly recommended!

Really Good

OK, I've discovered that M/M books are exactly like M/F books, except that the MCs are gay. I know that doesn't sound like an amazingly profound (or even intelligent) discovery, but I'm pretty sure a lot of straight guys don't know that (I didn't until I got a Kindle), and that's too bad, because books about PEOPLE in general can be very, very good.
Ms. Sunday knows how to play emotions. She gets into the characters' heads and allows you to feel what they're feeling. There is usually some traumatic or tragic background event (as there is here) and people muddling through the best they can.
I really enjoyed this book. While the plot is good, the characters are great, and that to me is what makes a book memorable. I especially liked Will (who we are primed to dislike in St-St-Stuffed), Heath, Candace and Rory (because he's got his own book next so we know why he acts like a jerk here, and that he'll be redeemed). And as others have mentioned, don't be sure you know who William is.
Incidentally, I've read a few reviews people taking Ms. Sunday to task because her American characters sound British. She's from New Zealand for crying out loud! It's much easier to speak in another dialect of a language than it is to write in it. Eh, since I'm an Anglophile, I figure I'm learning new Brit terminology and that's a good thing.

"mmmm, just right... "

first the meat, and then the emoting. 4150 locations, 2 scenes of sexual intimacy both pretty brief. Contemporary novel/lit/romance, not erotica. Anyta has really shown her ability to make the MCs likable without an empathy "hook" here. Her secondary characters are the real shining lights though in this piece. They are 3D, quirky, memorable without seeming ridiculous. There's an 'economy of words' in this piece--a concept I recognize but on which I clearly have no grasp. I didn't get bored with any scene, and there's little if any needless repetition. She also did a great job with tension in the plotline. Recently I've had a disappointing reading experience with an author I usually love but... Ugggghh angst over kill, and no payoff (IMHO). Then I read a different book, different author--cute story but long and ZERO angst/tension between the MCs at all--thought I'd like that but ehhh... It left me with a saccharine taste in my mouth. And along came Anyta Sunday with her latest Work! I feel like goldilocks finding baby bear's bed, y'know, just... Mmm. Finding and reading this book makes me glad I woke up early on Tuesday May 29th, because I might not otherwise have found it.
