About the Author
Jack Erjavec has become a fixture in the automotive textbook publishing world. He has decades of experience as a technician, educator, author, and editor, and has authored or co-authored more than 30 automotive textbooks and training manuals. Erjavec holds a master's degree in vocational and technical education from Ohio State University, and he spent twenty years at Columbus State Community College as an instructor and administrator. A long-time affiliate of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers, he also served as executive vice-president for the organization and spent several years on its board of directors. Erjavec is also associated with ATMC, SAE, ASA, ATRA, AERA, and other automotive professional associations.

Rob Thompson has been teaching high school automotive technology since 1995. His teaching career began in 1994 as an adjunct faculty member at Columbus State Community College. Since 2007, Thompson has worked on numerous projects for Cengage Learning and is the author of AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE & LIGHT REPAIR. He currently serves as vice-president and president-elect of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers.

Of moderate value for actual auto repair.

I bought the 3rd edition, as it best fits my own vehicles. I found several errors that the proof readers missed. I also found it a bit redundant to explain what a gasket is for each component that might use a gasket. Overall, this appears to be a required text for some, but it is a lightweight for automotive repair and certainly does not justify the high price of the newer versions. At a reasonable price, it offers an overview of vehicle repair, and if accompanied by an actual repair manual, such as Motors or Chiltons, it would be OK. As an actual automotive engineer with years of engine development experience, I was disappointed with it. The author apparently takes articles from various companies web sights or literature, and puts in his books. I don't get the feeling that the author actually has any automotive experience.

I am a audi technician. I went to school 8 years ago and i needed more broad information on all makes and models for my ASE tests. This book is very informative and well written. I was surprised with all the information it had. This book is a must have for any tech that actually cares about keeping up with the latest information and technology.

The Shed, North Stand, Headhunters .........

Having met Jason on numerous occassions (Not at Football i might add) he has always been polite and a real mans man, this book tells it like it was, he has no need to turn it into fiction, even those he used to fight against will confirm that fact, memories of Jason at Tone's Bar in North Cheam, will always be held as good memories of a True Blue. Very enjoyable read.

Guilty Pleasure

This is more than just a hooligan memoir; it provides an interesting insight into the cynical methods used by investigative journalists, where sensationalising a story is more important than the truth. Having grown up in South London, and having been a Chelsea supporter, I still found parts of the book to be very funny, hence the guilty pleasure.

Allthough I do not believe he is a far from innocent bloke, the way his life has collapsed and the way law made it worse is nothing more but a shambles!!! It is a lesson on how dangerous and deceiptfull journalism is.

Well written and very enjoyable. If you watched the program defo read this book!

About the Author
Alexander Kossiakoff (deceased) was a director and chief scientist of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, as well as program chair of the MS program in systems engineering and technical management at JHU Whiting School of Engineering.

William N. Sweet, now retired, was associate department head of the Fleet Systems Department at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

Samuel J. Seymour is the systems engineering vice chair at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering. He served under Professor Kossiakoff for more than twenty-five years.

Steven M. Biemer is an instructor at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering. He assisted Professor Kossiakoff in developing the first edition of this book.

This book is cumbersome, lacks quality writing, and is nearly void of illustrations.

First off, I am a professor and teach systems engineering. I bought/acquired both a hard copy and a soft Kindle copy of this text book and made it the required text for my course. I bought the Kindle version so I could cut and paste items into briefing slides for use in class presentation materials. When I got half way through the text, I got a notice that I exceeded the copy limit the publisher had set up. If you want to cut and paste material out of the text, don't buy a Kindle version of it since you will be prohibited from doing so.

The first half to the text is cumbersome. The author defines his own unique phases for his own unique life cycle model and breaks out the conceptual design phase into 3 phases and grudgingly goes through all the typical system engineering tasks in each phase. The result is he doesn't release a top-level requirements spec until the last page of chapter 8. Once you get through the first eight chapters, the layout improves and there is some pretty good content in the second half of the book. Throughout the entire book, however, there are relatively few figures or illustrations, and the ones that are presented are fairly basic.

Overall, this text doesn't measure up to the system engineering works offered by Blanchard, or by Eisner's book on Project and Systems Engineering Management. Both Blanchard and Eisner write much more persuasively, and they both fill their works with worthwhile figures that help illustrate system engineering topics. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Useful, but not great

I've been practicing elements of systems engineering for several years and I was seeking a book that would help me pull it all together. This book definitely attempts to do that, but I found it less satisfying than I had hoped. The book does contain a good overview of systems engineering and touches on most if not all the concepts. As another reviewer indicated, the topic coverage is rather inconsistent. Some topics are covered with a great deal of rather wordy text and some, which are of in my view of equal importance, are skimmed over so briefly it feels like the authors felt compelled to mention them but did so in such a superficial way as to not really add much value, e.g. modeling techniques and methods. On the positive side, the explanations of the concept development process phases and principles were some of the best I have encountered. I have referred back to them on several occasions. In addition, the book was also effective in helping me better understand the role of the systems engineer relative to other engineering and project management disciplines. I often wished the book had contained more straightforward diagrams, but that's really a matter of taste. While I do think this is a useful book, I would recommend trying to get it used or from a library before buying new. Overall, I appreciate the authors writing the book, I just wish they had polished it a bit more.

I am using this for a class I am taking on Systems Engineering so I have read it pretty much cover to cover. Frankly, I have never given such a low score on a book before. It is poorly written, poorly organized, not enough diagrams and not enough examples. I find that there are times I have to read and reread a section to make sure I understand the point of the paragraph.

The book will discuss a topic in several different places so the reader has to bounce around over five different spots to get the total information shared about it. The book discusses many complex and abstract topics and doesn't give a concrete example in many instances.

The information in the book is very good hence 2 stars.

Mr. Pierce is seriously HAWTTTT!

Alayna is a bartender with a huge student loan to pay off. When her brother stops supporting her financially she had to look for another ways to pay off her debt. Enters Hudson Pierce, the seriously smoky mysterious new owner of the club where Alayna works.

When Hudson propose an offer to pay off her debts in exchange for her to pose as his fake girlfriend in order to escape an impending marriage arranged by his mother, Alayna took up the offer to get herself out of her financial woes.

But what she didn't bargain for is the sexual charged chemistry between them. What she didn't bargain for is to get caught up in the whirlwind tornado that is Hudson Pierce. And what she certainly didn't bargain for is to fall in love with a man who is not capable of love and with a whole lot of secrets.

Ms. Paige carefully keeps her readers on their toes with this one and I seriously cannot wait to continue reading the series to know what Hudson is hiding. This book is a definite winner!

AMAZING! What a well written story of two complicated ...

AMAZING! What a well written story of two complicated characters, Alayna and Hudson. My emotions rode the roller coaster and at times I found myself literally holding my breath to see what happened next. Talk about book coma two nights in a row!!!

I love the character of Alayna. She's different. She has seen her fair share of struggles and has been down pretty low in her life but she is fighting to stay on top. She knows how to keep herself from falling, does what she needs when she needs to, but still allows herself to feel love, pain, hunger and lust. Yet she is as strong as she is weak. She doesn't take crap from anyone. She stands up for herself when it's appropriate to do so but she's human and let's the nasty words get in her head too. She struggles, her struggles are real but it's how she fights to win those struggles that I loved. She wants to heal from her past and be normal. Can Hudson help her find that normalcy?

Then there is Hudson. Rich, wealthy, young and hot blah, blah, blah. I know, you know the type. But he's different. You never know if he's doing something for show or because he honestly wants to or feels that way. He kept me guessing until the end. Even in the love scenes. Is he good at just making love or does he FEEL anything when he does it? The love scenes are so beautiful you can fell the passion between the characters. Some of the best written that I have read. He too has a dark past that stays in Pandora's box. The way the story is written you want to find that box and open it. You will curse Laurelin Paige for not opening it sooner because you can't wait to know about Celia. Ahhh, and the other secrets too that you know are waiting to be revealed. Hudson can play the game but when is he acting and when is he being the real him?

His family is all screwed up but I wanted to take Sophia and hurl her into the ocean. Sophia's character is so well written you will hate her before you meet her. Her hateful and spiteful words and actions are enough to drive anyone away but Alayna thinks she can manage the challenge. No one is good enough for Sophia's son. No one. Make that clear. Except for Celia. You need to read and see how Alayna attempts to handle Sophia. And her allies will make you laugh. Jack is a great character, so opposite Sophia. His character is a welcome relief from Sophia. The Pierce family is one wacky family and I don't mean that in a funny way. See how Hudson deals with his mom.

I can't wait to see what happens next. Where do these two people go now? They have been through a great deal, they are learning to open up to each other and be "real" with each other like a real couple. I hope it lasts but seeing as there are two more books in the series, I am guessing we have some skeletons and some more bullying from the mother to deal with. I am up for the challenge. I can't wait to see what's next for them!

Beautifully written romance, you will be hooked!

I'll be honest I thought I would read Fixed On You because it had some great reviews and it was part of kindle unlimited and audible was included. I'm so glad I did Laurelin Paige may be my new favorite author. I love Kristen Proby and Sylvia Day until now they were my favorites. The book is a romance based in NYC rich guy chases hard working girl. Yet it so much more than that interesting twists and turns very well developed characters and three more books to continue the story. They are all good read them in order you will not be disappointed.
